How To Get The Helicopter to Mykines

One of the deciding factors in our Faroe Islands itinerary was the helicopter timetable to Mykines.  Although we were able to book our helicopter tickets quite easily (more detail here), we didn't actually know the practicalities of getting the helicopter. 

Don't worry - it's actually very easy to do and because we couldn't find any information online before we did it, I thought I would clear things up:

First thing first, you can park your hire car at Vagar airport like normal. 

Then we headed into the terminal but didn't know where to go next.  So we asked the Information Desk on the right - turns out that is the correct place! 

The Information Desk will check you in, then point you to the right, down a small corridor to what looks like a fire exit. 

At this you will see the below poster as a Meeting Point, so just chill out here and make sure you watch the safety video on the tv screen below. 

After a wee while a man came out and weighed our luggage - you can only take small-ish bags on it due to weight.  You can also keep your camera out (even though the video said not to). 

Then we got in a wee mini bus which took us to the helipad.  

Apparently there was a meeting going on in the terminal so our pilot was going to be ten minutes late, so our other pilot said now was a good time for a photo shoot!  He let all 12 of us live our best insta lives inside and out of the helicopter. 

After the meeting we were off!  It was only supposed to be a 7 minute flight, but as a sorry for the delay (I know, so polite) the pilot took us on a wee tour of the sea cliffs in Mykines. 

Then we were let off at Mykines - and about 45 minutes before the ferry, so we got a headstart!
