Saksun, Faroe Islands

Saksun is one place on which is always on the Faroe Islands To Do lists - so we were sure to visit it on our recent trip there.

In terms of logistics, Saksun is pretty easy to get to - just follow Google Maps.  When you get to the village there are two options, the first left or continue on the road to the right.

If you take the left, there are more parking options and this is also the path which you take down to the beach if you want to explore it.

The ancient village itself is the second option and when you get there be warned there is very limited parking.  This wasn't a problem for us as we visited at about 9pm (it being May meant it was still super light then) and we were literally the only people at both Saksun locations.

If you are going during the day, which I think most people do, I would be concerned the 10 parking spots would fill up quickly.

When we got there we had a good wee wader about and took all the photos you can see in this post.

I think a lot of people recommend Saksun as a whole day activity, which I'm not sure if I would.  There are a few hiking options around here but we didn't do any - so perhaps if you were incorporating a hike into your day this would give you more to do in Saksun.

I would definitely recommend Saskun to visit, particularly later at night if you have the light!

Have you visited Saksun, what did you think?
