You might remember that this spring we headed to the very lovely Inchcailloch Island on Loch Lomond when it was a beautiful sea of bluebells...

Well I was getting a few questions on how to actually get to Inchcailloch from Balmaha, so I thought it was about time I shared!

It's actually super easy, Balmaha Boatyard is located centrally in Balmaha.  You buy your ticket at a wee hut and then jump aboard!  It's £5 per person.

Check the website for updated times, but in spring/summer it runs at least every half an hour.

The ferry itself is a super cute, proper old school wooden boat! The journey is quick, about ten minutes.

The really fun fact about doing this route, is that you don't have to pay for parking at Balmaha... you can actually park at the boatyard itself!  But shush ;)

When you land on the island, there are a few steep steps (so I would not recommend this for people with mobility issues or buggies etc - we saw a few and it looked like a battle!). Once on the island there are a few well marked paths to enjoy!

And yes, the ferry is dog friendly - here is me and Hetty on the boat!
