Upcycling 1930's Chair

You might have spotted our latest home project on Instagram - the upcycling of this 1930's chair we picked up from a charity shop!  I think it looks pretty good and is pretty impressive when you consider the "before" status.  And we whipped up a wee matching footstool to match!

Before I get into the process, some links to the final styled looks...

So, now let's go back to 2019 when we found this 1930's chair in a charity warehouse for £35.  It looks like there was good bones - we liked the wood details and it was structurally sound.  Although we didn't like the warm wood colour and the fabric needed a change (we found the last upholstery details on the bottom as dated in 1987).

When it came for fabric choices, we wanted velvet and a bold non-repeating pattern!  I found this online (can't remember when as it was a good couple of years ago)

When we moved up to Scotland Matt got to work - after sanding down the wood and re-staining it nice and dark he then re-did calico and a layer of padding. Then came the show-stoppers, he attached the velvet with a compressor and then attached mustard braid from eBay!

Then it came to accessories - building a matching footstool!
Matty bought these wee carved legs from Amazon (ad-affiliate link) and stained them to the same colour.  He made base out of wood and then affixed upholstery foam from eBay and covered it in the same fabric and trim!
