Faroe Islands Slave Cliff Hike

The Lake over the Ocean is one of the most iconic sights of the Faroe Islands which sits over the dramatic Slave Cliffs - luckily this is probably one of the most accessible hikes we did while out there. 

When we bought tickets to the Slave Cliff hike (as you now have to do for a number of hikes in the Faroe Islands) it was sold as a guided hike.  However, when we got there we found this wasn't the case.  Instead the man on the gate showed you the map and pointed you on to the path and off you went. 



This hike was recently upgraded as part of the "Voluntourism" activity that took place in early spring of 2019 and it has clearly made a significant difference.  The flat paths were well done and very easy to follow (literally one path, walk on the path). 

Unfortunately the climbing elements of the path had not been finished when we visited and honestly would pose quite a liability due to the height and state of them.  Luckily we had a dry day so walking on the grassy incline next to the path was okay and we didn't have to worry about slipping. 

Once we got to the cliffs the views were incredible, both looking back into land to see the lake over the ocean and looking down the coast line.  We got some great photos and chilled out for a bit. 

This is a good hike to do for most people - it's pretty easy and largely flat.  It is quite exposed when you reach the cliffs, so take windproof clothing as it was super windy even on a calm and quite sunny day!
