How to know when to rewax your Barbour

When we were in St Andrews recently, we took these sun-flare filled photos!  And although I think they are quite cute pictures of me - the Barbour jacket is clearly the main event!

I have a few Barbour waxed jackets now and have been asked a few times about the maintenance of them - so I thought I'd take a minute to talk about Barbour maintenance.

And it will literally be a minute, because Barbour jackets are ridiculously low maintenance and tend to look even better with moderate abuse.

However, the biggest upkeep you will have is rewaxing which you need to do when the waterproofing starts to fail and you need to re-protect your jacket.  You'll know when to do this because you'll start to get damp shoulders or arms when you wear your jacket in the rain.

Alternatively, the texture of the jacket will start to roughen up and patches of damage become more evident.

This is when you can decide on your method of rewaxing - either you do it or you send it away.  Although some people do it themselves, I tend to just take it into a Barbour shop and get it sent off. The price difference is pretty nominal, there's zero hassle and the quality is spot on!  Although if you are going to do it yourself you will need a big table and some elbow grease!

But back to that Scottish sun on St Andrews pier...
