One of the best tours I have done in a while - and definitely a highlight on our trip to Palermo, Sicily was to visit the beautiful Opera House Teatro Massimo! It's absolutely stunning! So let me tell you about our visits and what to expect if you visit.
It's the biggest opera house in Italy and the third biggest opera in Europe, it's totally stunning!
Firstly, you need to buy tickets to go on a tour - you can't just wander around have a look.
The tour was really good, it was done in both English and Italian.
You get a really good look around the opera house, but my highlights definitely included the main opera room with these hand painted ceiling panels. The fun fact about it, is that they actually are designed to open up for ventilation in the summer!
The Royal Box also has amazing hand painted silk ceiling panels, and you get this impressive open view of the whole stage area.
Then upstairs there is a special room where the acoustics do a special trick, I won't spoil it but you definitely need to do it...
Overall I really recommend visiting the opera hours if you are in Palermo, Sicily!
