St Conan's Kirk

St Conan's Kirk is a hidden gem, that we spotted from the roadside on the way to Isle of Skye.  I had never heard of it before but as we drove through a wee village we spotted it and had to stop.

This fantastic church is so unusual as I read about it as I wandered around it.  It was built in the 1880s when the local nobleman decided the local church was too far for his wee mother to go to and had to build a new one!

And quite a dramatic church it is - it has almost every style of architecture incorporated.  Norman, Gothic and Celtic.

It was really nice to walk around and admire the grand pillars and big windows, as well as the gardens being really nice.

Have you been? What's your Scottish roadside stop?
