Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn) Hike - Munro #2

 

In 2020 when there was a brief reprise in the lockdown restrictions which let us do outdoors activity we started bagging munros.  After Ben Lomond next on the list was Ben Vorlich at Loch Earn, which most people tend to do as a double whammy with Stuc a'Chorin. 

So we started off on a nice day, and I made a few wee changes to my kit in preparation for this hike. Both for the better, so I'll let you know: 

- I wore a baseball cap, because I have eyes which are really light-sensitive.  On my last hike I was squinting quite a lot.  So I tried a baseball cap - and I really noticed the difference!  The only downside was my head did get a little hot and I am informed by my loving husband that it isn't a great look for me.  So on that note, I am going to try a visor for my next summer hike (I will still look odd, but my head will be cooler, affiliate link) 

- I also bought myself a bladder for water, which made such a difference because I didn't need to stop and get my water bottle out en route (affiliate link)

Again, the hike is pretty good and straightforward.  I actually found it easier than Ben Lomond.  The paths were well marked and easy to follow. 

When we reached the summit of Ben Vorlich we decided not to go on to Stuc a'Chorin.  With hindsight I think we should have just pushed on and completed it, but I wasn't really in the mood for it and we'll have to do it again soon!

But overall, it was a good day and... my usual reminder - be prepared for the hills.  Make sure you are dressed appropriately and ready for the weather.
