This post is a little different from my usual, as I haven't actually done a Winter Mountain Skills course (yet) however my husband completed one in the Cairngorms in February during Storm Ciara!
He took some really cool photos while he was on it, and said that I could share them here with a reminder for everyone to stay safe on the hills and ensure you have the correct kit and skills for what you plan to do.
Remember, there is no shame in turning back if things get dicey - these pictures show how tricky hiking in Scotland can get. During the course, they even had to leave the summit due to high winds.
It has been great to see so many people start their hiking journey during COVID, however please remember weather can be severe and stay safe.
Our Mountain Rescue Teams are fantastic, and a large number of them are run on an entirely voluntarily and donation basis. So let's try not to put them under unnecessary strain.
