ART: Spring Fling Round Up

I've talked about Spring Fling before on my blog (actually quite a lot recently, here and here).  But now that it's all over I thought I would do a little post to round it all up.

Spring Fling is a huge celebration of artistic talents all over Dumfries and Galloway which happens over the May Bank Holiday weekend, this year it started on Friday 23rd with an evening preview in the studios and went on all day through Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Over the weekend over 90 artists open up their studios and gallery spaces to present their work to visitors.  It's really great to walk around all these different spaces and realise how much talent we have, and the variety of it which is on your front door!

I always try and see as many artists as possible over Spring Fling and this year was no exception.  I scooted around the country side to try and see as many artists as possible.  Everyone was very welcoming and it was lovely to speak to so many people enthusiastic about their work.

My favourite picks from Spring Fling have got to be:

Elkbi  - Website, Facebook, Twitter

Elkbi is a local fashion brand who specialises in screen printing her fun prints on to all sorts of things - whether it is tees and vests or skirts and playful collars.  I really liked her home made jewellery as well, so quirky!

Little Dot Creations - Website, Facebook

I've featured this Little Dot magic before on my blog, quite recently here where I did a full run down on her and her Spring Fling studio.  Little dots were scattered on prints, framed originals, cushions and even cards.

Rory Laycock - Website, Twitter

Rory's work is bold and direct.  He aims to comment on aspects of the modern world and pop culture through his art.  My favourites included the pieces on Glasgow subway.

My final pick of Spring Fling is: Julie Dumbarton - Website, Facebook

Julie's work is absolutely stunning!  The colours are so bold and beautiful so there was some really special pieces to look at.  However you weren't allowed to take pictures inside so this is one from her Facebook page.
