Is Snowdon Miners Track Dog Friendly?

As you have probably seen, we recently went up Snowdon in late Autumn and we took the dogs.  However, in planning the trip there wasn't much information on the dog friendliness of Snowdon so I thought I would put together my thoughts on the matter.

Firstly, it's worth saying that Snowdon isn't that dog friendly overall and here's why... n

The Train
There's a well known train/cable car thing which gets you up the mountain - and this was going to be my back up if the weather was terrible.  I thought me and Hetty could go up on the train and wait up there NOPE - not an option #disappointed

Cafe at the Top
Thankfully the weather was good so I walked up on the Miners Track, so I wasn't stranded by the station.  Even if I managed to get up the mountain (Hetty is only small after all), I would have been stuck as there is nowhere dog friendly up there!

Quite disappointing really...

However, as the weather was good I went up the mountain!  And so did Hetty!

The Miners Track
The Miners Track is probably the easiest way up the mountain and that's what we did and it's VERY dog friendly - so that's good.

Getting to the Miners Track
The car park at the start of the Miners Track is pretty tiny, so it will probably be full.  We parked in town in Llanberis and got the Sherpa bus to the start of the track.  The Sherpa bus IS dog friendly!

The Track Itself
The track itself is very dog friendly, it's well marked out and wide enough.  Tilly - a cocker spaniel- was fine the whole time and found it super easy (she's done the West Highland Way and is a working gun dog).  Hetty walked all the way up but needed to be carried back down in my backpack!

There are some steeper parts to it (about the last third) which is quite uneven underfoot and the most difficult for people and those with paws!  It was this section which tired Hetty out the most - having to jump from paving stone to paving stone.

There are also parts of the path which is slate underfoot and I think was sore on Hetty's wee paws on the flat.  Which was why she stayed in the bag the whole way down - even on the flats!
