Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray Review

I know I'm late to the Salt Spray party but I'm here now and this review is to let you know that I have arrived!

I picked up the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray one rainy day when I was sheltering from the stormy weather.  I got this miniature bottle in a set along with some shampoo and conditioner.  Who else manages to accidentally spend money when it's raining outside? Just me?  Okay then!

First up, I'm not entirely sure I've cracked how to use this properly.  I've watched youtube videos, I've read tutorials- I just can't seem to crack it!  So please remember that when you read my review!

I'll just talk you through my whole process with the product to let you know what I've done.  Please don't read this as if I don't like the Surf Spray, because I do- but for me it's just not an every day product and maybe I just haven't quite figured out the best way to use it just yet!

Using When Wet

The consensus in the reviews is you should use the spray when your hair is wet, so I tried this.  The first main point is do not over use the spray!  Otherwise you'll get crispy and dry hair - not good.

The Good:
When I do use what I think is the appropriate amount - 2 squirts each side and 2 on the back I do get quite a nice beachy look.  I get some lovely beachy waves and nice texture on the ends.

After a shower I towel dry my hair, then spray on the Surf Spray and give it a good scrunch.  Then let my hair air dry, I have found that it does take a little longer to dry than normal but still does dry nice.

The Not So Good:
Even if I squirt the spray in my roots it doesn't give me much lift up there at all.  I don't know why but the volume I was hoping for just doesn't come at all!

Using When Dry

Using the Surf Spray on dry hair wasn't as effective for me.  I could get the nice texture but not the waves.  Again it's really important not to over spray otherwise your hair will be crunchy and greasy- trust me I've been there.

But one handy thing I've found for the Surf Spray is if you know you don't have time for a shower in the morning, or if you're feeling a bit lazy the day before then use the Surf Spray to freshen up you hair!  It adds texture in the morning, or if you use it the night before it acts like a dry shampoo.

Overall

Overall the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray can give you some really nice beachy waves and add some texture to the end.  However it doesn't add volume and sometimes the waves fall a little flat throughout the day.

It is also really handy for cleaning up your dirty hair when used tactically!

Although I would say that the spray is only useful if you know you are going to have time to let it air dry completely; as I don't use heat on my hair this means I shower at night and sometimes sleep with damp hair.  You can't do that with the Surf Spray, otherwise your hair will get crunchy and crumpled up in a not very attractive way!

Have you tried this Surf Spray, what did you think?  What about any other salt sprays?

  1. I love bumble and bumble surf spray, my hair is naturally pretty wavy but sometimes to give it an extra kick I like to use this! Try tipping your head upside down and blasting it with a hair dryer at the roots for a couple of seconds after spraying it, it always works for me!

  2. I love the Lush sea spray - if I wake up in the morning and my curls are a bit flat and dull a few spritzes of that makes them come back to life. Plus it smells of the seaside (in a nice way, not in a fishy way!)
