Cocktails at the West Port, St Andrews

Welcome to the final stop on my cocktail tour of St Andrews!  We finished the night in the very luxurious West Port bar on South Street.

If you missed my previous posts you can catch up here: first stop Vic; second stop Forgans and third stop Hotel Du Vin.

When we arrived at the West Post it was really busy which gave it a bubbly and exciting vibe.  However, although it was really busy the bar manager Nicky was great, he found lots of time to sit down and speak to us.  So thank you very much for your hospitality Nicky and the West Port!

Unfortunately it was really dark at our table so the photos aren't the best.  I had to improvise and pulled a stool to a harshly lit corridor to get the photos.  The cocktails looked and tasted great, my photos don't do them justice!  As proof here is an instagram snap I took when I went back for more cocktails at the end of term!

When I think classic cocktails I think Westport - so I was really looking forward to sampling some - and the West Port didn't disappoint.  You should also like them on Facebook to get a cocktail card for some exclusive offers!

First up was the French Martini.

I loved the fruity, raspberry take on the classic martini.  There was raspberry in every element of this cocktail and it provided a really deep flavour - Absolut Raspberry was topped up with Chambord, lime juice, pineapple juice and fresh raspberries.  It was really fruity tasting, almost like smoothie or raspberry ice cream!  This was also partly due to the foamy layer on top which Sophie and I made sure to scrape off with a straw to get all of the cocktail!

Then we had the Sloe Gin Fizz.

Sloe gin always reminds me of my Granny who makes it, but this tastes really modern and fruity!  Gordon's Sloe Gin was added to Hendricks, lemon juice, soda and lemonade.  This was a really refreshing drink, quite tart but still very summery.  I could imagine sipping it outside in their beer garden on a nice day!

Since we ended the night at the West Port it seems appropriate to mention that you can also start the day there- they serve breakfasts from 9am every day of the week!

As with my previous posts this post was done in conjunction with VisitStAndrews and I was a guest at West Port, but as always all opinions are my own.
